Activist Tips: Getting Things Done

This is the first of a series of posts on tips and tools for activists.

Several years ago I read a book called Getting Things Done that really helped me become more organized and capable of doing more in less time. I’m not a great practitioner of the methods outlined in the book, but even implementing a few of the methods can really help you take control of that crazy to-do list and email inbox.

The author, David Allen, makes a number of free articles available on his website as well, and he’s recently published a new book.

If you don’t want to commit to reading a whole book, there is a chapter on David Allen and his Getting Things Done system in a new book, which is available online, for free.

Don’t be put off by the businessy look of the book and the ideas. As activists we need to be as effective as possible, and this book is a valuable tool to getting more done when we barely have time to do anything at all.

I might just get that book… I don’t like spending money on books if I can help it, but I desperately need to learn how to get things done!
