Animal Rights Day 2010

Yesterday, the Vancouver Humane Society hosted our city’s 28th annual Animal Rights Day with a free event at the art gallery.  We were there, as well as the Vancouver Rabbit Rescue Association, Hearts on Noses, and SAINTS.

Our tent!

It was fun to talk to other local animal advocacy groups and to catch up with old friends–and new ones!

Hearts on Noses

A big thank you to VHS, all the groups who came out, and all the caring and curious folks who stopped by!

It was great to see the organizations that normally don’t get any exposure in Vancouver. Although this is the smallest AR Day I’ve been to. Probably because it’s on a Friday rather than on the weekend.

Lifeforce started Animal Rights Day in 1983 when we convinced the Mayor of Vancouver to declare August 3rd which was the opening day of our Animal Right Symposium. This was the first city worldwide to do so.

It was disappointing that VHS did not respond to Lifeforce inquires this year to attend and setup our educational displays.

Thanks Peter – I wasn’t aware that Lifeforce had been behind that original declaration. Great job!

In spite of VHS attempt to change it the original declaration that I wrote was permantly confirmed as Animal Rights Day on every August 3rd hereafter.
