2012 Walk for Farm Animals a major success!
Category : Uncategorized
On Saturday, September 29th, about 115 people came to the Vancouver Art Gallery to participate in Liberation BC’s 6th annual Walk for Farm Animals to benefit Farm Sanctuary, showing support and raising awareness for some of the most abused and forgotten beings on the planet. The Walk for Farm Animals is a celebration of kindness, showing everybody that a compassionate lifestyle is reason to rejoice!
The total funds raised for Farm Sanctuary will be announced soon, but in the meantime I can tell you that we already know that it beats all previous records for Vancouver. What can I say? You guys are amazing!
The day began with some energizing pre-walk yoga, courtesy of local instructor Yasmin Ali:
And as we prepared for the walk to begin, some of us headed to the kids’ table.
At 11:15, we set out into downtown Vancouver with the incredibly talented folks of the Carnival Band setting the pace…
People were lining up on the sidewalks to watch and take photos as we marched, and enthusiastic, hard-working volunteers handed out hundreds of informational leaflets.
After the walk we had tons of yummy (and free!) vegan pastries provided by Edible Flours, Fairy Cakes, and Whole Foods, as well as live entertainment from local musicians Sinéad Sanders and John Federico. Loving Hut Express parked nearby to sell their unbelievably delicious gourmet sandwiches, fries, onion rings, and more, delighting vegans and non-vegans alike. (The gluten-free burger with yam fries and chipotle sauce is my personal favourite…I swear I dream about it at night.)
We’d like to thank everyone who participated and helped make the Walk for Farm Animals such a huge success. Your efforts make a world of difference! We are so grateful to have such a caring and generous community of animal advocates!
